Video Mapping for the 2013 Media Showcase
This project will be presented on May 15th, 2013 at the Regnier Center within the Johnson County Community College campus during the 2013 Media Showcase, which is a yearly showcase of JCCC students work. I decided to to work on a technology that I’ve never tried to implement before. Video Mapping is a projection technology used to turn objects, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection. I wanted to make a branding display of the JCCC logos and their sports team logo, the cavaliers. I used plastic cardboard, known as coreplast, to craft a 3D model of a cube. Using the three exposed sides to project video onto, I made several skins, or templates that will be used to project video through the program, VPT 6.
VPT is a free multipurpose realtime projection software tool for Mac and Windows created by HC Gilje.
Among other things it can be used for projecting video on complex forms, adapt a projection to a particular space/surface, combine recorded and live footage, for multiscreen HD playback, for interactive installations using arduino sensors or camera tracking ++
